Jackrabbit Leaping Reassembled Ring Teapot

The step-by-step making of this teapot is depicted on page 40 of Paul Park’s March 2002 Ceramics Monthly magazine article about my Reassembled Ring Teapots, which can be found in the News&Press section of this website. when I reassembled this Teapot I wanted to preserve the circularity of the original pentagonal cross-section ring, but fill the inside of the circle with the zigzag assembly of the two arc segments cut out of the top and bottom of the intact ring. I made the lid finial in a re-statement of this reassembled ring composition, and later named the teapot “Jackrabbit Leaping” because the shape of the finial suggested this long-eared rabbit in flight. The soft fuzzy look of the glaze on this teapot has been much admired by viewers, and was accomplished by sponge printing the yellow, pale green, lilac purple, and pink glazes over the glossy opaque white cone 5 oxidation glaze.
